The future of Spanish ports: multifunctional terminals to combine cargo with cruise ships and megayacht mooring

Spanish ports are moving towards a new era in which digitalization and the introduction of rail infrastructure promise a revolution, but they also face other opportunities that, if properly utilized, can be a goldmine for their business.

The consulting firm Ocean Capital Partners (OCP), specializing in the port sector, speaks of focusing on 'multipurpose terminals,' which aim to make operations more flexible so that "different types of cargo or passengers can coexist within the same infrastructure, which is constantly evolving." For example, a container terminal could handle operations for offshore wind energy, or a passenger terminal could operate cruise ships and also provide berthing services for megayachts during the winter season.
