Female scientists, engineers, and leaders in STEM sectors inspire vocations among secondary and high school students

The lack of female role models in management positions in science, technology and engineering companies is another reason that influences the rejection of these careers by young female students.

«It’s harder to choose what you don’t know,» noted civil engineer Lucía Gutiérrez, director of the Asset Management Office at Ocean Capital Partners. «When I was little, there was no Barbie engineer, but now there is. It’s important to understand that being an engineer isn’t about stereotypes. What should an engineer look like? I’ve often been told, »You don’t look like an engineer,’ or ‘It doesn’t suit you.’ It’s a job that opens doors, qualifies you, and gives you opportunities to participate in very interesting projects where the female perspective contributes just as much as the male one.”.
